Poppie’s Blog: Top 5 Essential Winter Packables

Poppie’s Blog: Top 5 Essential Winter Packables

Winter travel season is upon us! Christmas markets, trips home for the holidays, and generally chilly weather mean that we’re all packing a little heavier—even those of us who prefer to pack light!

1. Puffer Coat
It’s the tried and true winter travel staple: A coat that’s both warm and squishes down to practically nothing for packing! Sometimes they come with their own bag for packing, and other times they can be tucked into their own pocket. Either way you store it, it’s the #1 essential winter packable for any chilly trip.

2. Beanie

It’s a proven fact: If your head and ears are warm, the rest of you will be warmer as well. And beanies are adorable! I’m not even a hat person, but I have at least 10 beanies in a variety of colors and patterns. Whether it comes with a pom pom, a hole for my hair to go out the top, or an understated neutral tone that goes with everything, they’re light, they take up so little space in your luggage, and I love them. I never travel to a wintry destination without one—or three!

3. Leggings

Seriously, who’s traveling without leggings these days? They’re an absolute essential, but not just because they’re comfortable, go from casual to fancy, and go with everything. They’re also the perfect layering piece under snow pants, jeans, or a second pair of leggings! You already know they’re perfect on their own, but if your winter wonderland dreams involve thigh-high snow drifts, you’ll be so glad you’re wearing them as a layering piece, too.

4. Boots

Booties, knee-highs, snow boots—you know you’ll need to bring a pair! The best tip I have for packing boots, however, is not to pack them. That’s right! Wear them on your travel day instead of packing them to save precious room (and weight) in your luggage. Just make sure they’re comfortable. If they’re new, break them in for an hour a day for at least a week before you travel. And wear thick socks to keep your toes warm and protected in there. No one wants blisters!

5. Thermals

Thermals are the go-anywhere, ready-for-anything clothing option. They’re not just Long John’s anymore! Thermals are definitely effective as a base layer, as always, but now they come in beautiful colors and fun patterns, making them the perfect choice for your winter travels. I never pack for a chilly trip without one—or more!
